“On the day of election on Monday, PM Modi did a road show of two and a half hours while he went to cast his vote in Ahmedabad. It was a clear case violation of the model code of conduct. We would appeal to EC against it. But during the entire Gujarat election campaign, the Election Commission has acted as if it is willingly under pressure,” Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera told media persons.
He lamented that many Gujarat campaign related complaints that the Congress had filed with the EC, including one against the BJP and the PM for making use of children in the campaign, failed to evoke any response.
“Yesterday (Sunday) our tribal leader and MLA from Danta Kanti Kharadi wrote to the EC, seeking protection as he felt threat to his life. But EC didn’t respond and later he was attacked by 24 BJP goons. BJP also distributed liquor in Gujarat, even though liquor is banned there. EC took no action on that either,” said Khera.
The Congress, he said, will resort to legal recourse to bring the last-minute road shows of the PM and their live telecast on TV news channels under the ambit of the BJP’s election expenditure for publicity.
PM rally on polling day will influence ‘outcome’: Mamata
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has accused the Election Commission of offering “VIP treatment” to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and a few others by allowing political rallies on election day.
“PM doing rally is illegal on election day. The EC should look into this. If one is holding a political rally on the day of the results, then the result will be what you imagine.” They are VIPs different treatment for them,” Banerjee told the media before boarding her flight to Delhi from Kolkata.
