Tampa police chief: Florida police chief resigns after video showing her attempting to elude golf cart traffic check surfaced

[ad_1]

A police chief in Tampa, Florida, resigned after body camera evidence showed her exploiting her rank to get out of a traffic encounter for driving a golf cart without tags. Mary O’Connor left on Monday after an inner matters investigation determined she violated police department policy during a stop by a Pinellas County Sheriff’s officer on November 12.

O’Connor is shown on footage acquired by Creative Loafing Tampa Bay attempting to shrug off the officer who dragged her and her husband over in the cart.

O’Connor inquired of the deputy whether the camera was turned on. Larry Jacoby, she gritted her teeth, introduced himself as the police chief of Tampa. He thought they would let them go tonight.

As the officers’ converse, Deputy Jacoby admits they have many problems with golf carts around here, and everyone comes out before releasing the couple. Ms O’Connor informs the officer that she may be reached at any time. He also mentioned delivering them a card before shaking hands and thanking each other for their service.

Ms O’Connor stated in an email to the department that she made poor decisions after being placed on administrative leave shortly after the video was made public. According to an internal investigation, Ms O’Connor breached norms on standards of behaviour and misuse of position or identification. Following that, Tampa Mayor Jane Castor asked the police chief to resign.
