However, keeping the emotions aside, there were some phenomenal episodes, which, more or less, have a consensus about their greatness among fans. Here are top anime series picks of the year by IGN.
• Cyberpunk: Edgerunners
Picking Cyberpunk: Edgerunners was a no-brainer. In fact, it quickly becomes one of the best anime series ever. The gritty story combined with phenomenal psychedelic animation creates a unique experience that no anime fan should miss.
• Mob Psycho 100: Season 3
The third season of Mob Psycho 100 was released after a two-year gap, but the wait was worth it. Shigeo “Mob” Kageyama, the child psychic is back, this lurking in the absurd after a local exorcist takes him under his wing. The series ends up being a hilarious, light-hearted but strong anime that you need.
• Chainsaw Man
Based on Tatsuki Fujimoto’s hit manga, Chainsaw Man was probably the bloodiest anime series to release in 2022. Denji, an orphan, makes a deal with Chainsaw Devil Pochita. The deal allows the simple guy to transform into a demon with chainsaws protruding from his hands and face and get a government job as a Devil Hunter. However, the best part about the anime is that the creators focused on the day-to-day lives as much as the action and violence.
• Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury
The franchise, in continuous publication since 1979, got another great year with the release of Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury. However, new viewers don’t need to catch up on any of the past stories, as The Witch from Mercury is a new Gundam series that entirely stands on its own. The modern tropes and the sociopolitical soup make it one of the more interesting anime to have been released in 2022, the same way previous Gundam series have been.
Honorary mentions
• Tekken: Bloodline
• Attack on Titan
