On Tuesday, March 7, Apple introduced(Opens in a new tab) a sunny new yellow to the iPhone 14 lineup. The new colorway is available for iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus models, which currently come in midnight, starlight, (PRODUCT)RED, blue, and purple. (An actual lavender color — not the fake “deep purple” of the iPhone 14 Pro model.)

There’s not that much different from the yellow iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus than the iPhone 14 smartphone lineup that was released last September. It’s made with an aluminum body and Ceramic Shield screen for durability and scratch resistance and has the same features and specs, including Crash Detection, Emergency SOS via satellite, and an advanced dual-camera system. The yellow iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus also have the same prices as the rest of the lineup, starting at $799 and $899 respectively.
But now iPhone users looking to cross to the other side of the color wheel finally have that option. It’s like holding sunshine in your hand, and Mashable got to experience its luminosity in person.

Hands-on with the yellow iPhone 14 Plus, the shade is bright and creamy. Not so yellow that it’s blinding, but just enough pop of color to catch your attention. Like all iPhone 14 models, the frame is just visible around the edge of the front screen, which creates a distinct yet subtle border that’s pleasing to the eye. I just got the device, so I haven’t had much time with it yet, but one of my first thoughts is whether fingerprint smudges might be be more noticeable. The glass back makes it easy to buff away any grime, but if you’re accident-prone, Apple also released new silicone cases in the same yellow shade along with olive, sky, and iris.

We haven’t seen a lot of yellow from the iPhone maker. Way back in 2013, the lower-end iPhone 5c came in a yellow (along with white, pink, blue, and green). Compared to the cartoony iPhone 5c, this yellow is whimsical yet sophisticated, like doing the Sunday edition of the New York Times crossword puzzle or taking salsa classes.
