Friendship has been a gaming element in the Pokémon franchise since Generation II’s Pokémon Gold and Silver. It has become a standard in the games since its introduction. Friendship and Affection were initially distinct concepts, but in Generations VIII and IX, it again becomes only friendship.

Ways of increasing friendship.


Using your Pokémon in combat and Auto Battles will strengthen your bond. However, be aware of your Pokémon’s health and treat them carefully.

Item Boosts

Shell Bell can help you achieve friendship with your Pokémon. Giving you Pokémon XP sweets can also boost your friendship.

Walking Around

Walking about with your Pokémon in Let’s Go mode will quickly bring them closer to you. However, walking at their pace can be aggravating.


Making a sandwich or washing them can enhance your friendship with Pokémon.

Ways to check friendship

During Picnics

Approach your Pokémon at a picnic and engage with them by pressing the A button. They may make a friendly little chirp and hop around, but 1-5 hearts may also appear over their heads to give you a good idea of their feelings about you.

Friendship Checker

A woman in Cascarraffa is the game’s “Friendship Checker” NPC and can tell your Pokémon’s feelings about you. She has some possible replies, each matching the Pokémon’s Friendship Stat. You can utilize the Best Friend Ribbon to give a unique title to them.
